The Nickel City Sons AAA Midgets were dealt with two tragic losses three weeks apart.

In Sept. a well known business man and minor hockey supporter Gabe Belanger passed away after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Belanger was the grandfather of forward Sebastien Leroux.

On Oct. 10/09 a former Nickel City Sons defenceman (2007-2008, 2008-2009 ) Michael Rollins died tragically as a result of a plane crash in Algonquin Park. He was one of three passengers in the small aircraft which was piloted by Michael's girlfriends father.

Michaels girlfriend Emily Houle , her mother Lorraine and father Kevin perished in the crash.

Like Mr.Belanger Mr. Houle was also a well known business man operating Tracks and Wheels Equipment Brokers Inc.
